Brazil Nutritionist Reveals 5-Day Plan for Blood Sugar Balance

A nutritionist has outlined a five-day meal plan designed to help balance blood sugar, offering a framework for stable energy and reduced cravings. The plan focuses on pairing protein, fat, and fiber at every meal to prevent sharp spikes and crashes in blood glucose.

Blood sugar, or blood glucose, is the amount of sugar in the blood at any given time. It is produced when the body breaks down carbohydrates. The goal is a gradual rise in blood sugar after eating, followed by a slow decline. Large increases in blood sugar can lead to dramatic decreases, which can trigger cravings, fatigue, and overeating.

The plan emphasizes several key habits. Eating a balanced combination of carbohydrates, protein, and fat is a primary strategy. Protein slows digestion and blunts glucose spikes, while fiber slows the rate at which sugar enters the bloodstream. A 10-to-15-minute walk after eating is recommended, as it helps muscles use glucose for energy. Getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep is also important, as poor sleep can decrease insulin sensitivity. Managing stress is another factor, as chronic stress can raise blood sugar even without eating.

The meal plan is described as a flexible framework, not a rigid prescription. It includes five days of meals and snacks designed to keep blood sugar steady. The plan also includes a list of foods that help balance blood sugar, such as animal protein sources, plant-based protein sources, plain Greek yogurt, dark leafy greens, non-starchy vegetables, berries, avocados, nuts, seeds, and legumes.

Additional tips include eating within an hour of waking, paying attention to the order in which foods are eaten, pairing carbs with protein or fat rather than restricting them, and staying hydrated. The plan suggests that even a 10-minute walk after meals can reduce post-meal blood sugar spikes.
